Blog - 2011 to be an extraordinary year!

We are delighted to welcome you back to the Market Theatre in
2011. Our staff is busy creating an extraordinary range of dramatic
experiences for you on our stages - classics, new works, great South
African stories and musical treasures. Our three venues are all
located in Johannesburg’s historic fresh fruit and vegetable market
and our theatre has been operating here continuously since 1976 and
the Market Theatre is one of the major facilities in the city’s
exciting Newtown district.

Beyond live theatre, the Market Theatre Foundation also operates
internationally regarded educational efforts in theatre and
photography. The Lab, as it is popularly known, operates in its purpose-
built facilities in the “Bus Factory” Building and offers theatre
education, community theatre festivals and much more. Meanwhile, the
Photo Workshop, located nearby, provides top-level professional
education in photography as well as internationally regarded
exhibitions by new and established photographers from around the world.

All of us at the Market hope you will find your way to us to see some
of South Africa’s finest performers. Where else can you have a chance
on one night to listen to and watch the ageless Hugh Masekela perform
in a dazzling music tribute to the Songs of Migration from South
Africa and beyond; be brought to your feet on the next night by the
impact of a classic drama by John Kani, Winston Ntshona and Athol
Fugard about a man who suddenly chooses to live his live without fear
by taking on a dead man’s identity; and then come back for yet
another work - a dazzling retelling of a West African myth about good
and evil on still another evening -  and all this just in the first
Escorts SA | Female Escorts | Male Escorts few weeks of 2011! And there is so much more to come in the weeks and months ahead.

Years ago, when the Market Theatre was first willed into life by two
extraordinary men - theatre manager Mannie Manim and the late Barney
Simon, a playwright and teacher - we would always tell our friends:
“Meet me at the Market!” The wonderful thing is that it’s still true
- the Market Theatre remains the perfect place to bring friends from
across town - or from around the world.

We look forward to welcoming you for a play or musical event, for a
dinner or a casual drink at one of our two restaurants; or you can
make a full night of it and do both! The Market Theatre continues to
be one of Johannesburg’s great experiences.

Our best wishes for a wonderful 2011.
Brooks Spector - Interim CEO
