Khongolose Khommanding Khommissars to spark new political and social conversations!
iri Pink Nob and Diartskonageng, in association with The Market Theatre Laboratory, bring Khongolose Khommaning Khomissars, a compelling proposition from playwright J. Bobs Tshabalala, and an even more daring directorial effort by Kgomotso “MoMo” Matsunyane.
Khongolose Khommanding Khommissars stars a stellar cast of five dynamic women, Keitumetse Moepang, Canzi Mangcu, Andisiwe Mpinda, Molebogeng Phiri and Dimpho More. Standard Bank Young Artist of the year for Theatre (2017), Monageng Motshabi, teams up with J. Bobs Tshabalala, to co-produce this enchanting production.
The play delves into the very complex world of the lines which blur for persons who have professional interests both in the spheres of business and politics. What does it mean to be a Black businessman, and what does it mean to be a black politician, in contemporary South Africa? Furthermore, what does it mean to be both? Khongolose Khommanding Khommissars examines closely this tumultuous duplicity with an incisive flare for the poetics of doggerel and the trappings of revolutionary rhetoric.
The production is a see-all-lens which travels beyond the electric fences and high walls, and grants all the voyeurs an intimate seat at an extremely private table. It is when we are inside those walls, that we meet this elite unit, known only as ‘The Brotherhood’.
There were two phases to the initial mounting of this project. Phase one was a three-day staged reading (June 30th – July 2nd, 2017). Phase two is a one-week season at the Ramolao Makhene Theatre. The full production season is from Wednesday 30 August to Sunday 03 September 2017.
