Review - Explosion of talent

Two-man play makes Mncedisi Ueel blessed FOR a long time, they dreamt of working together on a two-man play. And the classic Woza Albert! if nally gave them the opportunity to make their dream come true. Mncedisi Shabangu and Hamilton Dlamini are back on stage playing the parts of Mbongeni Ngema and Percy Mtwa directed by Prince Lamla. The highly successful run of the show earlier this year forced the Market Theatre in Newtown, Joburg, to bring it back. SunBuzz cornered one of the actors, an exhausted Mncedisi, after an energy-draining show. He said: “Plays like Woza Albert! make you feel special. It’s really a blessing to be in this role. Demanding as it is, we are certainly enjoying every minute of the play. “The other plus is that the two of us work well together.” The two actors are a marvel to watch on stage. There isn’t a boring moment! The show has been so well received that extra performances have been added to the run. “On Sunday, I was approached by a white women after the show. “She told me that when she saw the show in the 1980s, she cried. “This time, she cried even more because she felt as if nothing has changed. She said today she still sees the cruel things that happened back then. “That really touched me,” said Mncedisi. This satirical play taps into the absurdities of apartheid in a moving way. It asks what would happen if Jesus Christ’s second coming happened in apartheid South Africa. It’s on until 22 April at the Market Theatre’s Laager Theatre. Mncedisi Shabangu in Woza Albert! r,, t
