The Market Theatre 6/12 conversations are an integral part of the Market Theatre’s engagement with the wider world of the performing arts – allowing leading practitioners such as internationally renowned directors, actors/actresses and musicians to speak directly to audiences about their work, their influences and their creative ideas.

These conversations are open to the broader public as well as specialists in the South African performing arts sector. After an initial conversation between the guest and a host/moderator; questions are opened up to the audience and these sessions are always lively and engaging.

In recent years, participants have included noteworthy individuals such as Pulitzer prize winning jazz great, Wynton Marsalis; Eve Ensler - Tony Award winning playwright, performer, feminist and activist, best known for her play The Vagina Monologues; the late Anthony Minghella, Academy award winning director of “The English Patient”; actors Julie Taymor, Phylicia Rashad, Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson – just to name a few.
