THE MARKET THEATRE FOUNDATION
BUSINESS UNIT: PRODUCING
The Assistant Producer will be responsible for the unfolding of the artistic programming, through effective and efficient planning, and management of available financial, human resources, time and infrastructure, in conjunction with the Producer, Head of Stage and Technical Services, Technical Administrator and Project Administrators.
Key Job Responsibilities:
■ Assisting Producer, in managing all productions and events in all venues ■ Ensure adherence to contracts and deliverables for individual productions ■ Ensure compliance with the PFMA and Supply Chain management regarding expenditure ■ Apply for performance licenses, negotiate a non-returnable advance author’s royalty and to ensure the contract between the author and the theatre is equitable ■ Oversee the drawing up of contract for authors, Directors, Designers, Actors ■ Co-ordinate all departments and stakeholders ( technical, marketing and publicity) through the process of mounting a paly and managing the process ■ Attend production meetings and monitor the technical progress of productions ■ Oversee the smooth running of rehearsals and to ensure that the needs and problem of directors and actors are dealt with and resolved ■Resolve any problems that might hinder the smooth running of performances ■ Ensure that the set, costumes, sound effects and music designs meet the director’s requirements ■ Providing statistics on each production and regular reporting on attendance, expenditure vs budget ■ Collate all information necessary for reporting as per funder requirements ■ managing the schedules and booking of all venues at the Market Theatre Foundation ■ liaison with both internal and external producers and event coordinators as well as being the liaison with the Market Theatre Foundation’s ticketing service provider
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
■ Degree in Dramatic Arts / Theatre studies
■ 3 years’ administration experience in creative/cultural and visual art projects, preferably in arts sector
■ Sound management experience
■ Financial and budgetary experience and costing of productions
■ Good planning and organisation skills
■ Sound negotiation skills
■ Attention to detail
■ Develop and maintain sound relationships
■ Effective verbal and written communication skills
■ Work across a diverse workforce and manage cultural barriers
■ Ability to communicate more than one South African official languages.
