Bolero and Tranceformations

Dear Principal and/or HOD: Arts & Culture,

Re: Watch the Performance of two CAPS Dance Set Pieces: Tranceformations & Bolero
Moving into Dance (MID), in partnership with The Ar(t)chive & The Market Theatre Foundation invites your school to watch Tranceformations. This critically acclaimed dance work choreographed by the founder of Moving into Dance, Sylvia ‘Magogo’ Glasser, in 1991 and is inspired by the rock art, belief systems and trance dancing of the San or Bushmen. Recognised as an iconic work in the history of South African dance, this work is positioned as one of eight set dance pieces that are studied as part of the CAPS curriculum for dance in grades 10-12 in SA schools.
Additionally, a performance of Alfred Hinkel’s Bolero which is also part of the CAPS curriculum for dance will be staged. BOLERO – the NEW REVISED version by Alfred Hinkel for MID is a much loved, signature piece in the Jazzart repertoire and has been performed countless times over the years. Created by Alfred Hinkel in Namaqualand in 1976, it focused on the Immorality Act, and was danced to a blend of local rhythms and the magnificent score by Ravel.
