About the Role

Purpose

  • To facilitate and promote effective teaching and learning by means of resource management:
  • Managing financial resources, processes and people. This includes managing a budget by overseeing expenditure which involves contracting of facilitators, scheduling of facilitators, facilitator development, and overseeing the recruitment of learners for each of the MPW courses. The incumbent is required to lead the courses team, delegate and develop staff.
  • To drive the development and review of (short term) course outlines, (medium and long term) curriculum documents, and other learning and teaching support material.
  • To monitor implementation of course outline and outcomes, and
  • To review and evaluate courses and training
  • To drive the accreditation process and ensure that all accreditation is renewed timeously.

  Curriculum and academic work

  • Driving the research and development of course outlines, curriculum documents and other

                 learning and teaching support material (working with other MPW staff and the Curriculum

                 Sub-committee, and other consultants, as necessary)

  • Drive the process of SAQA accreditation for the various courses offered by the MPW.
  • Develop an MPW prospectus outlining course content in line with the unit standards,

                 policies and processes, annual schedule, facilitator profiles, etc.

  • Facilitate an annual curriculum review process and strategy.
  • Facilitate partnerships with other institutions of learning including cooperation, learner

                 recruitment and joint reviews (assessment/moderation/facilitation).

   Moderation and Assessment work

  • Oversee the moderation process and review the moderation policy from time to time.
  • Contributing to ensuring that delivery of training and assessments is in line with the

                 curriculum and relevant to the industry/sector.

  • Contributing to devising and revising assessment briefs in line with accepted NQF and SAQA

                   assessment principles.

  • Checking transcripts and ensuring that students receive formative and summative

                 assessment results timeously.

   Management of academic staff

  •         Regularly liaise with courses coordinators to facilitate teaching and learning within specified

                parameters (including being aware of session content, training methods, use of materials,

                etc.) Liaise with course assistants as necessary/at least quarterly.

  •        Managing staff to ensure that the course is delivered on time and within budget, including

                 appointment of relevant facilitators, assessors and moderators.

  •        Liaise with facilitators at least one meeting per quarter to review/discuss teaching and

                 learning within specified parameters (including being aware of session content, training

                 methods, use of materials, etc.)

  •        Identify and address challenges/problems as they arise and proactively resolving.
  •        Liaise with and co-ordinate communication amongst relevant stakeholders (courses

                 coordinators, students, facilitators, tutors, support staff, Market Theatre Laboratory staff

                 etc.)

Administration of courses and staff

  •         Monitor courses in progress and report on a weekly basis
  •        Prepare and update budgets for courses and report on expenditure quarterly
  •        Prepare and administer contracts for facilitators and other academic staff
  •       Participate in and facilitate evaluation of staff performance and facilitators within the

                 course

Administration/management of other resources, infrastructure and logistics

  •    Check that there is optimal use of financial, equipment, infrastructure and human resources

           within the course, through developing and applying measures aimed at minimising wastage and

           loss (both in terms of time and materials/equipment/resources).

  •    Managing staff to ensure that the course is delivered on time and within budget.
  •   Providing support for courses coordinators, course assistants, facilitators, tutors, presenters,

           and students.

  •    Managing the implementation of academic policies and procedures.

Desired Experience & 

Qualification

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE

  EDUCATION

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree (photography, visual arts, education, media, journalism, social

           sciences) – and ideally a post-graduate qualification                                                  

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in education
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in cultural management

  EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in photography practice and/or training in  photography/visual

           arts from a recognised institution

  • Experience and understanding of curriculum development in the relevant SETA context
  •  Research experience in the education/visual arts/ photography field
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a leadership role and/or demonstrable leadership potential
  • A critical, well-informed understanding of photography in South Africa, Africa and globally
  • Experience of working at an education and training NGO or similar organisation would be an

           advantage

  • Passionate, driven and dynamic
  • Stakeholder engagement – students, facilitators, tutors, advisory board sub-committee, support

           staff, etc.

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Written and verbal communication
  • Report writing both content narrative and financial
  • Team player and work well under pressure
  • Working knowledge of Mac, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Working knowledge of PFMS, PPPFA and Treasury regulations
  • Word and excel at intermediate level
  • Multitasking and excellent time management skills
