Purpose
The Usher is responsible for the seating and the safety of patrons in all performance venues in The Market Theatre, but not limited to… Ushers help their guests in locating not only their seats but other facilities as well, like comfort rooms, registration booths, etc, and ensure that patrons adhere to regulations whilst in the Theatre.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Taking care of the health & safety of our patrons
- Cleaning of the foyers and emptying of bins and ashtrays.
- General tidying of the foyer area.
- Sales of programs and merchandise.
- Assisting the FOH managers whenever they need help.
- Setting up, serving, cleaning, and tidying up during and after events.
- Acting as front-line personnel by giving information regarding shows and the institution.
- Always attending to clients/patrons with a smile, and professionalism and giving the correct information.
- Making sure that the patrons are going to the correct venue and are sitting on the assigned seats.
- Always Enforce the FOH rules in a polite and professional manner.
- Distributing promotional material to clients.
- Ensuring that the theatres are clean and tidy and that seats are up before the doors are opened to the audience.
- To be always at their designated post before and after the shows, until the audience has left the theatre.
- Checking the theatres before and after the performances, handing in all lost and found items to the FOH manager.
- Not allowing anyone into the theatre without a ticket.
- Not allowing anyone in the theatre with cool drinks and alcohol, unless it is permitted (only bottled water is allowed).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE
- Minimum Grade 12 (Matric) – or relevant qualification in Hospitality.
- Minimum 1-2 years of relevant hospitality working experience will be an advantage.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Fluency in English and at least, one more South African official language.
- Passionate, driven, and dynamic.
