Rami Chuene

Actor, author, producer, speaker, singer, voice-over artist and businesswoman, Rami is one of South Africa’s leading actresses. With more than 26 years of brilliant and exceptional on-screen and stage storytelling, she is most known for her roles in popular local soapies such as The Queen, Muvhango, Scandal! and Giyani: Land Of Blood. Again, her television drama credits include Harvest, The Republic, Justice For All, BET’s daily drama ISONO and British/American series, Strike Back. Her movies include Life Above All and Hijack Stories.
Rami has also appeared in the Netflix Original series, How To Ruin Christmas: The Wedding and its sequels, How To Ruin Christmas: The Funeral as well as How To Ruin Christmas: The Baby Shower. She was also on the acclaimed Market Theatre production, The Cry Of Winnie Mandela
Beyond the stage, Rami is a singer and recording artist. Her album From Fear To Love was released in 2014. Moreover, she is a published author of We Kissed The Sun And Embraced The Moon, her memoirs that was published in 2015. Passionate about African languages, Rami translated veteran author Professor Es’kia Mphahlele’s novel, Father Come Home, into her native language, Sepedi.
A sought after speaker with a passion for women and youth empowerment, she is also a voice-over artist and MC who has hosted many stage, corporate and TV shows and events.
Rami is also a philanthropist, doing a lot of good through her foundation, Rami Chuene Foundation. She is an outspoken leader, conceptualiser and forward thinker who has served on the board of The August Club Growth Investment Group, a women-led group representing most sectors – finance, legal, human capital, culture and entertainment – offering a vast range of abilities that add value in the Black-owned businesses they invest in.
Currently, she serves on the cultural home of theatre, music, dance and arts, The Market Theatre Foundation, where she continues to contribute through her experience. Again, she sits on the board of the historic national and world heritage site, Robben Island Museum Foundation.
